Hi boys, I have updated the wiki with a thought to ponder and respond to on the discussion page. If you are not yet joined up please do that and then have a look and comment on the concepts discussed so far - reality and knowledge.
Next we will look at some religious sub-text in the Matrix and also a classical theme/aspect of Hollywood seen in so many films (and other stories too) - what sustains Neo's life when he is (almost) fatally shot by Agent Smith in the corridor at the end of the film?

Hi boys,
You are invited to participate in an introduction to philosophy enrichment option. The basic plan in set out in the attached Word note, but in brief, we will look at two areas in the very broad realm of philosophy - knowledge and the nature of the mind.
We will start with source material to get us thinking - The Matrix and The Terminator II movies. A philosopher and lecturer named Mark Rowlands has written a very engaging book drawing out philosophical ideas from these and other films (see the att.) and we will work from his analysis and thereafter, your thoughts.
We will meet in class time - I will fwd the periods when all are confirmed -but the two movies will be shown during evenings to get them right through (should be Thurs 6 Mar and Thurs 22 Mar from 6pm). Your job will include staying on top of your class work, of course.

What to do -
1. Watch the Youtube.
2. Sign up to the Y10 Philosophy Wiki - see separate email. (You must have done that already!)
3. Comment on the discussion page to outline why you think philosophy is important in the 21st Century. Please be specific - you should target a particular branch of philosophy and/or an application of philosophy to our life/society.
4. Come to the first meeting in the CLL auditorium in Period 6 on Friday 24th this week.
No obligations yet - you may come to this week's Friday session as a taster and then add your thoughts and participate on the wiki before Thursday next week.

Philosophy has always been something I have enjoyed and I look forward to watching the words multiply on this wiki. Mr Green, thank you for inviting me to look on as an observer - there are some wonderful kids in this bunch and I'm sure the debate and information will be very informative indeed.
It certainly is wonderful to see philosophy being embraced by you all. In a world where everything seems to be targeted around the 'here-and-now' and with entertainment, information and socialising being accessible at the click of a finger, philosophy, it seems might not have a part to play. It looks like King's Year 10 disputes this! What inspiring news!
